A flat view of a library
is the foundation from which customized views, which apply metadata, are created.
To have a SharePoint library display its contents in a flat view, perform the following
steps:
1. Navigate to the site that contains the SharePoint library.
2. On the site??™s home page, click the View All Site Content link at the top of the
Quick Launch menu.
3. On the All Site Content page, click the Title of the library you wish to modify.
4. On the Library page, click the Settings option to open its drop-down menu,
and then click the Document Library Settings option, as shown in Figure 16-2.
5. On the Document Library Settings page, scroll down the page to the Views
section (see Figure 16-3) and click the All Documents view to include all of the
library??™s documents in the view.
6. Scroll down the page to the Folders section and click the plus-sign button to
expand this node.
7. Select the Show All Items Without Folders option, as illustrated in Figure 16-4.
The alternative selection, Show Items Inside Folders, would be the equivalent of
the tree displayed in Windows Explorer, which is just what we are trying to avoid.
8. Click OK to save the library??™s settings.
