"How to Do Everything: Digital Camera 5 edition"

You can extend the life of these batteries by only recharging them when they??™re actually
run down; ???topping them off ??? is like a regular recharge in that it heats the chemicals in the
battery casing, which slowly reduces the battery??™s life.
20 How to Do Everything: Digital Camera
If your batteries die in the middle of a shoot and you don??™t have any spares, here??™s
a trick you can try that might give you a few extra shots: turn the camera off, wait a
minute, and then turn it back on. Often you can sneak in a few more pictures before the
batteries are completely exhausted.
Memory Storage
Memory cards store your digital images for you. The more memory your camera has, the more
images it can store. Most cameras include a memory card with some memory capacity (such as
32MB, 256MB, or GB) that, when inserted in the camera, stores images. When it??™s full, you can
remove this card and insert another card for additional storage. Of course, most manufacturers
include a pretty small card in the box with the camera, expecting that you will buy one or more
additional memory cards for your camera. Some cameras also come with a little internal memory
so they can snap a few photos even if the memory card is full or missing. Keep in mind, though,
that that internal memory is usually just a failsafe and is only good for a handful of images.
