"How to Do Everything: Digital Camera 5 edition"

How does your camera work? You??™ll have to experiment with your
camera to see. The easiest way is to put a little pressure on your shutter release button and
move the camera around, so it has to change focus from a nearby to a distant object. If the
focus changes as you move, then give some thought to using Shutter Priority instead for
hectic shooting, like at a soccer game.
CHAPTER 7: Sports, Action, and Active Kids 147
Photograph Kids at Sporting Events
So, you??™re at a soccer game and trying to get some great pictures of your kid and the team. Here
are a few pointers for getting great shots:
?–  Stay close to the action If you can get close to the sidelines, you won??™t have to shoot
over or between other spectators. Get right on the sidelines whenever possible. Getting
closer also means that you don??™t have to zoom in all the way just to get something
interesting in the frame??”so your pictures won??™t be as shaky.
?–  Get down to their level If you have little ones, get on your knees or on your belly, so
you??™re taking pictures from their perspective. Often, they??™ll be a lot more interesting than
photos that look down from 5 feet in the air, which is a towering height to a toddler.
?–  Keep the sun out of your eyes If the sun is anywhere in your field of view, your
pictures will be badly underexposed.
