CHAPTER 7: Sports, Action, and Active Kids 149
Notice the picturesque way that the water rolls off my dirty dishes. Take a few of these sorts of
images, and you??™ll be ready for a real waterfall!
Photograph Fireworks
When I think about the summers of my youth, I remember the long, hot, humid days of Jersey
City. There were fire hydrants opened up to serve as water sprinklers, touch football games in
the street, and the Italian ice truck that rumbled down the street every day at three. I don??™t know
if those traditions have changed in the last 30 years, but one thing that never goes out of style is
summer fireworks.
FIGURE 7-3 Varying the shutter speed can have a dramatic effect on the look of a photo with
lots of motion, like a waterfall.
150 How to Do Everything: Digital Camera
It doesn??™t take much to get some pretty amazing fireworks photos. Almost any digital camera
will do; you just need the ability to adjust the exposure (so an all-automatic camera won??™t give
you very good results) and a tripod. Yep, you??™re going to need to use a tripod??”any photo of
fireworks will require an exposure of 1 second or more, and you can??™t hold the camera steady for
that long.
One other goodie will improve your fireworks shots: a wireless remote for your camera.
