For best results, however, you should be as careful as possible when you
take your pictures. Just like the old computer axiom ???garbage in, garbage out,??? the better your
original images are, the better the final panorama will be.
FIGURE 8-1 Panoramic images allow you to see a picture more or less the same way your eyes see
the real world.
CHAPTER 8: Push Your Camera to Its Limits 157
The Best Reasons
to Shoot Panoramas
People sometimes ask me why they should bother with panoramas. There are two excellent
reasons:
?– Fit more in the frame ???I can just use a wide-angle setting on my camera??™s zoom
to take the same picture,??? people tell me. That??™s simply not always possible, though.
Often you can??™t back up far enough to fit everything in the frame. And when that
happens, your only choice to capture it all is to take the picture in sections and stitch
it together afterwards. Hence, a panorama.
?– Get more resolution You might want to print your picture at a giant poster size
like 20?—30 inches, but your camera takes 5-megapixel pictures, so you??™re worried
about having enough resolution to make a sharp print. No worries; shoot the picture
in sections. When each 5-megapixel square of the photo is stitched together, it might
be 10 or even 20 megapixels.
