"How to Do Everything: Digital Camera 5 edition"

My advice? Even
if you??™re using one of these apps, I??™d seriously consider just
sticking with Photo Gallery.
No matter what program you use, it??™s important to note that organizers don??™t
make a second copy of all your photos. The thumbnails in your organizer are just
representations of the original photos stored in your Pictures folder. So if you start
using Photo Gallery or Photoshop Organizer, for example, don??™t delete all the images in
the Pictures folder, thinking you now store your images somewhere else. You don??™t. The
photos in the organizer are nothing more than shortcuts that point back to your original
set of photos. If you delete them, they??™re gone forever!
Archive Your Photos
Eventually, your collection of digital images could grow too large for your hard disk. If that??™s the
case, you have a few choices:
?–  Delete nonessential images from your hard disk.
?–  Archive the images on another storage device, like a CD or DVD.
?–  Add another hard disk for additional storage space.
Deleting images is the easiest route, but no one wants to throw away images just because
the digital shoebox is filling up. You probably want to save most of your images forever, so you
might not want to use deleting as a routine housekeeping option.
