?–  Threshold This determines how different the pixels need to be before they??™re
considered an edge. A value of zero adds sharpening to every pixel in the photos and is
generally far too harsh. Try values between 2 and 20 for better results.

Make Selections in a Photo
Some of the time, you??™ll want to change a part of a photo??”just the sky, for example, or only
someone??™s face. Photo editing software makes that kind of effect possible in a number of
ways, with the most common being selections. Using a selection tool, you can isolate one part
of a photo from the rest of the image, and any effects you add only affect the selected region.
Photoshop Elements puts several selection tools at your disposal: the Lasso, Magnetic
Lasso, and Polygonal Lasso. They all bunk together in the sixth cubby from the top of the
toolbar. There??™s a fourth selection tool nearby: the Magic Wand.

?–  Lasso This is the most straightforward of the selection tools??”just click in the
photo and draw a shape. The lasso creates a selection and automatically ???closes??? the
selection when you lift your finger off the mouse.
