You can create your own Chroma Key effect yourself. Let??™s say that you want to try your
hand at a special effect??”you have a picture in which you??™d like to replace the view out of a
window with a completely different scene. It??™s just a matter of selecting the window (or all the
little squares of glass that make up the window) and substituting a different photo. Here??™s how
to do it:
1. Open the picture with the window that you want to modify.
2. Choose one of the selection tools from the toolbar. Depending upon the image, you
might want to ???trace??? the window with the Magnetic Lasso tool, or, if the window is
very uniform in color, you might have better results with the Magic Wand. You can
even start with one tool and ?¬? ne-tune the results with another (as long as you work
in the Add to Selection mode). In this example, I used the Polygonal Lasso tool for
the straight edges of the window, and then used the Magnetic Lasso tool to catch all
the unusual shapes and curves.

3. Open a second image in Photoshop Elements. This will be the image you insert into
the ?¬? rst image to replace the view as a sort of weather map effect.
4. With the second image selected, copy the image to the clipboard by pressing CTRL-A
(to select the entire photo) and then choosing Edit | Copy.
