6. To resize the pasted-in image, click a corner of the pasted picture??™s frame. While

CHAPTER 15: Create Special Effects 311
Fine-Tune the Selection Manually
The technique I just described works fine a lot of the time, but it??™s just not accurate enough to
create a truly convincing special effect, especially if you are trying to cut a person out of a photo,
for example, and you have to contend with a lot of hair, which mixes into the background. You
can get even better results with a Background Eraser.
The Background Eraser deletes the background from around the subject of your image,
making it easy to copy and paste it into other images. It usually works quite well, often able to
leave individual hairs on someone??™s head intact, while deleting unwanted backgrounds from
around them. Select the Background Eraser from the Tool Palette. The only setting you generally
need to set is the eraser??™s size; it shouldn??™t be too large, for reasons you??™ll see in a moment.
Position the eraser near the edge of the subject you??™re trying to isolate.
