5?—5.5 inch print when set to 300dpi (good for a color laser printer)
?– 15?—11 inch print at 150dpi (which might look okay coming from an inkjet)
?– 31?—23 inch print when set to 72dpi (on a computer screen), if displayed at full size
Remember, dpi and print size is just a way to measure how large you can print a digital
image??”the numbers that really tell you the true size of the image are the number of pixels.
Work with Paper
Here??™s a common scenario: you see great, photo-realistic prints in a computer store and think,
???That??™s the printer for me. It??™s only $150 and it makes outstanding pictures!??? So you buy the
printer and bring it home. But when you get the printer set up and send your first few images to
it, you??™re devastated. The output is horrible. The prints look flat and lifeless. The paper curls.
What went wrong?
It??™s the paper. What you failed to consider is the choice of paper is so important to the quality
of your prints that it??™s essentially more important than the printer itself ! A handful of printers
on the market can generate photo-realistic prints. But, unless you use quality paper, they will all
disappoint you.
Which Paper Is Best?
Unfortunately, choosing paper isn??™t easy, even if you know you want to get the best.
