To provide the value-added service discovery and reduce the cost of integration,
there are several requirements to be considered. In this chapter we focus on the
QoS-aware service discoveries and the semantics-aware service discovery.
QoS-aware service discovery is a necessary requirement for sophisticated Web services
applications. Being able to provide QoS-aware service discovery has several
distinct advantages. First, it allows the discovery and execution of the service according
to their QoS specifications. This forces the service provider to offer better
services to achieve competitive advantage. Second, it allows the Web services to be

applied in mission critical tasks. The service should provide its performance promises
in critical situations. The execution of the service should be monitored during its
life cycle to ensure the service conforms to the agreed service level objectives. If
undesired performance is detected, the service provider can take some management
activities to control the Web services??™ behavior.
