"Semantic Web Technologies and E-Business: Toward the Integrated Virtual Organization and Business Process Automation"

The original version of our ontology is
based on DARPA Agent Markup Language (DAML)+OIL and now converted to
OWL version. Using the OWL ontology as its definition language provides some
additional advantages over using pure XML solution:
???. Interoperability. In a complex scenario such as an Enterprise application,
there are a variety of management tools to assist the system??™s execution and
maintenance. Semantic Web-based specification provides a way for different
systems to speak the same language, hence basic integration is simplified.
Uniform data also provide a better view for decision making and matchmaking.
In our solution, a common ontology should be shared so that all partners
in the cooperation speak and understand the same words. Previous supporting
system normally uses wrappers to solve the interoperability problems, but this
is a costly solution.
???. Automation. Higher level automation is achieved through the logical view
of the system??™s knowledge. The system aggregates knowledge from various
components. Matchmaking, validation, decision making, and so forth are based
on the logic in the collected knowledge rather than the hard-coded programs.
