General Pattern of Spelling Errors
A natural language such as English is not static. The English language is one of the
most difficult languages to learn as it has the following properties:
??? It is not a phonetic language; there are many words that are not spelled the
way they sound.
??? It has many borrowed words that are not of English origin.
??? It has many suffixes and prefixes that serve the same or similar purposes.
It is natural to make spelling errors in a language as complicated as English. General
spelling errors can occur for many reasons, two of which are most common,
typographical errors and orthographic errors. These can be described as follows
(Peterson, 1980).
Typographic.error. The first one occurs when the user knows the correct spelling
but enters wrong typing because of fatigue, memory lapse, distraction, carelessness,
or inadvertent mistake. This type of error is not consistent but is predictable since
